Late last year, Alton applied for a National Scenic Byways Grant to renovate Riverview Park, and the process has now begun to apply for another grant. An OSLAD, or Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development Grant will be sought, pending full council approval tomorrow night. OSLAD Grants are administered through the state.
Among the improvements are an improved bandstand, sidewalks, restrooms, and an upgraded overview. With a majestic view of the Mississippi River and a gazebo that hosts many events, including Thursday night summer concerts by the Muny Band, Alton Park & Recreation Deputy Executive Director Rhonda Lewis says it is a fixture of the Christian Hill neighborhood.
The full council will also take under consideration legal action that could lead to a number of building demolitions, improvement of a portion of Fosterburg Road near Storey Lane, and bids for fence repair on Diamond #5 at Gordon Moore Park.
