The Schnucks grocery store chain has released more information regarding a credit and debit card breach that took place for about three months before being discovered by the company. The company says about 2.4 million credit cards and debit cards were impacted at dozens of stores including locations in Alton, Bethalto and Granite City from December 2012 to March 29 of this year.
A spokesman for the company says the problem has been contained and new protocols are in place to help prevent a similar incident. They discovered that only debit and credit card numbers were obtained during the breach of security but no names, addresses or other personal information was revealed. Schnucks has released a list showing 79 of its 100 stores in the Midwest were impacted including the Schnucks on the Homer Adams Parkway in Alton, the location in Bethalto at Airport Plaza, and in Granite City at 3100 Madison Avenue. The stores in Godfrey and Edwardsville were not on the list. The store has set up a hotline for questions from customers about the issue at 1-888-414-8022.
