While many communities are in clean-up mode today following the strong storms last night, the Riverbend appears to have dodged a bullet. At least two confirmed tornadoes touched down in Eastern Missouri, but there were none in our area, although the tornado sirens were activated in the Wood River area.
That was due to a law-enforcement reported funnel cloud near Hartford just before 8:30pm. National Weather Service Senior Forecaster Scott Truett tells The Big Z there is a difference between a funnel cloud and a tornado.

He says that happens from time to time with storms that have a lot of rotation in them. But because of the low-level parameters of the atmosphere in this area last night, conditions apparently were not favorable enough to let the funnel reach the ground.
