The Sierra Club has been teaming up with several other organizations to restore and renovate aging cabins in the Camp Ouatoga area of Pere Marquette State Park over last couple of years. The group restored its second cabin earlier this year and is planning to work on another one over the Columbus Day Weekend.

The Sierra Club's Virginia Woulfe-Beile says none of this would be possible without volunteers.

Beile says that is just one example of the types of important skills that volunteers have provided during this initiative.  She estimates that it takes roughly $2,000 to pay for the materials used to renovate and restore the structures and that the Sierra Club  is always willing to accept a donation if you are unable to volunteer.

If you would like to make a donation or want to learn more about the project, call the Sierra Club office in Alton at 462-6802.
