For the third straight year the Alton School District will begin the school year with one of their buildings closed for renovations. Work wrapped up on the project at West Elementary earlier this year and a similar project is just beginning at North Elementary according to Building and Grounds Director, Dave McClintock.

Students who normally attended North will spend the school year in other buildings. Kindergarten through 2nd graders will hold classes at Mark Twain while 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders will spend the year at Horace Mann. McClintock says the project will have three phases and that the goal is to have the renovations completed by next May.

In other business last night, school board members voted to extend the district’s food service contract with Aramark Educational Services through the 2013-14 school year; approved miscellaneous pay rates and announced that registration for the upcoming school year would begin on July 29th.
