Lawmakers are going after ridesharing companies, like Uber, Sidecar, and Lyft. State Rep Mike Zalewski says right now, the companies are completely unregulated. That means passengers are getting into the cars without knowing if the car is insured, if the driver has had a background check, or even if they will be protected in the event of an accident.
On top of that, the companies can change prices without warning, which taxi cabs can’t. Lawmakers say the companies need to be on the same playing field as all other commercial driving operators.
