The Alton Salvation Army recognized its Red Kettle / Tree of Lights volunteers at an appreciation lunch on Wednesday.  The Red Kettle campaign goal was $99,000.  It was announced the campaign collected more than $88,500.

Among those honored by the Salvation Army were WBGZ's Sam Stemm and Nick Darr.  Salvation Army Kettle Coordinator Greg Gelzinnis tells The Big Z the special award was for 50 years of service and support.

Gelzinnis says the new "Red Kettle High School Challenge" was a success.  And four volunteers - Mike Cleary, David Hickerson, Dane Rockafella, and Larry Goss - were recognized for volunteering 7 or more shifts throughout the 2015 campaign.
