The Tree of Lights, Red Kettle Campaign of the Salvation Army fell just short of its goal, but still raised more money than last year. After all of the donations were counted, the final tally was $112,000, which is $2,000 short of the bar set by the new leaders at the Alton location.
Alton Salvation Army Lieutenant Bryan Ellison says the money raised will help meet the needs of the community. Among those needs is job training.
The Salvation Army also provides 30 beds in its Booth House shelter, which is consistently filled, provides food to hundreds of families, and helped put toys under the trees of hundreds more.
