As we get closer to summer, the nation's blood supply begins to dwindle according to officials with the Southwestern Illinois Chapter of the American Red Cross. Executive Director Robin Summers says that's because it gets harder to find donors during the summer months.

In an effort to lessen the effects of a potentially slow summer, the Red Cross has set up ten blood drives this month in Madison County. The first will be held in Bethalto on May 19th and Summers encourages all eligible donors to make giving blood as much of their summer plans as barbeques, ball games and road trips.
