Whether you are a New Yorker who attended a national convention at McCormick Place, a Hoosier who caught a Cubs game, or a Peorian who hiked at Starved Rock State Park, you count as an Illinois domestic tourist.
“We welcomed a record 107.4 million visitors in 2014 to our great state. That’s a 3.8 percent increase over 2013,”said state tourism director Cory Jobe, “and that’s the fourth consecutive year for growth in terms of domestic visitors to the state of Illinois. In addition to that, we set another record in terms of hotel-motel tax receipts and revenues to the state. They (rose) another 6.4 percent” to a total of $250.6 million.

Jobe says this year’s advertising theme is “Find Something More,” intending to touch upon the emotions of travel, whether it’s a family trip to a state park, a girls’ getaway to Galena, or a grandfather showing his grandson the Lincoln sites in Springfield.
