The Riverbend Growth Association handed out its annual Captains of the Riverbend awards during the groups annual luncheon on Thursday.  Andy's Auto Body and Car Care, Ziemer Ophthalmology, Frew's Bridal and Formal Wear and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 649 were honored for their dedication to the area, but also for recent expansions.

Andy's will soon be adding a new location, a tire and auto center at Alton Square Mall that opens November 2.  The IBEW added to its campus on Humbert Road earlier this year.  RBGA President Monica Bristow:

Bristow comment

Frew's purchased and refurbished the old Sears and Snyder's buildings at 3rd and Piasa Street's in downtown Alton and expanded the business.  Ziemer USA, the North American arm of a Swiss-based business, expanded it's foothold in Alton by moving into the former Olympic Federal building at 3rd and Broadway from it's former home on Ridge Street.
