The impact tourism has on the Riverbend region can be measured in the millions of dollars, according to the head of the local tourism agency. There has been some concern around the state about the future of tourism funding with a new administration taking over in January. It now appears Illinois Governor-elect Bruce Rauner is a friend of the industry.
Rauner recently addressed the Better Government Association and says he is a big advocate of tourism.

Rauner says there is unlocked potential as a tourist destination across the state, but especially in Springfield. Brett Stawar, President of the Alton Regional Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, says one report indicates a total economic impact of nearly $23-million just from visitors that spend the night in local hotels.
