Which candidate for Illinois governor is better for veterans? Incumbent Gov. Pat Quinn has been currying their favor for years, even before he became governor. That's not stopping Bruce Rauner, the Republican challenger, who addressed the Illinois American Legion state convention in Springfield.
After his speech, when asked how he can outflank Quinn on this front, Rauner answered, “My record on supporting veterans is strong and clear. I'm a big advocate for veterans. They made the ultimate sacrifice, and I – both in my personal life and when we become governor – I want to make sure that we do everything we can to support veterans and their families. They deserve our ultimate support.”

Rauner told the Legion convention he and his wife contribute to such organizations as the Navy SEALs Foundation and Honor Flight. Quinn has made a practice of attending Illinoisans’ military funerals, visiting injured soldiers in military hospitals, and starting efforts to raise money to help military families in need.
