Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner met with several local officials Friday morning to observe the riverfront to assess flood waters and damage stricken areas in the River Bend. Among those joining Rauner were Alton Mayor Brant Walker, Alton Police Chief Jason Simmons, Fire Chief Bernie Sebold, , Public Works Director Bob Barnhart, U.S. Representative Rodney Davis, and Madison County Chairman Alan Dunstan.
Rauner says he is very pleased with the city of Alton for how they have handled this disaster and for quickly building a large barrier to seal off flood waters downtown. However he says money for assistance to repair damages is not available from the state.
