GOP nominee for governor Bruce Rauner will benefit from a state contract awarded last year by his opponent, Governor Pat Quinn. Rauner formerly ran GTCR LLC, a Chicago private equity firm, which he is currently an investor. Since December of 2012, GTCR has owned Correctional Healthcare, which recently received a five-year renewal of its contract from the Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice.
The 99-point-three million dollar state deal permits Correctional Healthcare to provide medical, dental and mental health evaluations and treatment for six state-run youth detention centers in the Chicago area and downstate. Quinn's camp says the governor wasn't involved in awarding the contract and didn't know of Rauner's ties to Correctional Healthcare.
