The governor wants college campuses across the state to go green. That was part of his message as Gov. Pat Quinn spoke at the sixth annual Sustainable Universities and Colleges Symposium at Heartland Community College in Normal. The symposium is to further foster and exchange ideas on sustainable practices.

“It’s so important at our community colleges that we really engage ourselves in this mission of a lifetime to be sustainable; to have a green way of thinking and a green way of acting,” Quinn said.

The symposium featured workshops, panels, exhibits, and speakers who addressed topics such as sustainable transportation and green business techniques. The primary goal of the symposium is to enhance sustainability programs at Illinois’ universities and colleges.

The symposium fulfilled the recently signed law, H.B. 166, which requires state universities to meet annually to enhance sustainable energy research.
