Gov. Pat Quinn is not deterred by public opinion polls showing him trailing in his re-election bid. The governor trails Republican Bruce Rauner by 1 to 9 percentage points in recent surveys, but he says he isn’t worried. “There’s 12 weeks from tomorrow (Tuesday), and I’ve been underestimated. I’ve been an underdog in every race I’ve been in and last time around, they said I was out. It turned out I won, so I have total confidence that our campaign and our issues will prevail,” he said.

One poll had respondents considering Rauner a reformer at twice the rate they considered Quinn a reformer, even though Quinn fashioned a reputation for reform before he became governor. Quinn says he has agreed to “six or seven” broadcast debates, while Rauner hasn’t committed to any yet. The Rauner campaign says Rauner will debate, and will announce a schedule in the coming days.
