Illinois’ top Democrats rallied the troops during a speech-filled brunch in Springfield Wednesday. One after another, Democrats running for statewide office took the podium at Springfield’s Crowne Plaza hotel to stir the party faithful.
State Sen. Mike Frerichs (D-Champaign), who is running for treasurer, says all eyes are on the November election. “I know that we can make progress. I know that we will do it when we do it together,” said Frerichs.

Lt. Gov. Shelia Simon, who is running for comptroller, told the crowd they have their work cut out for them. “To get our ticket to win from the top to the bottom…it’s going to take work,” said Simon.
Most speakers acknowledged this election will be a tough one – as Democrats are going up a better-funded and seemingly better organized Republican party.
