Gov. Pat Quinn used the Labor Day weekend to push for an increase in the minimum wage. The current minimum is $8.25 an hour, a level that has not changed since 2010. Quinn favors a minimum wage of $10 an hour. He spoke at a church in Chicago on Sunday in support of an increase and says says a higher minimum wage is a matter of justice.
Governor Quinn also says that raising the minimum wage would reduce poverty.
Legislation has been introduced in Springfield to raise the minimum wage to $10.50 an hour, and then index it to the cost of living.
