Governor Quinn seems to be on board with the pension deal reached by legislative leaders. He says it meets his standards on eliminating the 100-billion-dollar-pension liability and stabilizing the systems. Quinn has been pushing for pension reform for more than a year now, and even said he was quote, "put on this earth to get it done."
But lawmakers have criticized Quinn for not taking a lead on reform. They say he played politics instead when he slashed their salaries back in July, hoping that would force their hand on passing a bill. A judge reinstated lawmakers’ salaries a few months later. Now, a vote on pension reform is in the works and could come as early as Tuesday of next week.
