As states are responding to the Caylee Anthony trial, Illinois is close to having its own Caylee’s Law.State Rep. Jack Franks (D-Marengo) says he wants to prevent a similar instance in Illinois. He’s referring to the high-profile case when a Florida mother didn’t report that her child had been missing for more than a month.

Franks says he remembers the way he felt when his toddler when he couldn’t find his toddler. “Parents better use common sense,” Franks said. “And if their toddler is gone and they can’t find them in an hour they better get somebody to help them find that child. That’s the bottom line.”

The proposal makes it a felony if a parent doesn’t report a missing child within 24 hours.

SB 2537 awaits the governor’s action.
