Governor Pat Quinn is calling for an federal investigation into Megabus after two people died on Illinois roadways in less than a week. He's written a letter to U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, asking him to head the investigation and ensure the company has all proper procedures and precautions in place regarding vehicles and drivers.
He says understanding the company's history could help steer any necessary policy changes for bus carriers. Quinn became concerned after one woman was killed when a tire blew on one of the buses last Thursday, causing it to hit a concrete pillar on Interstate 55 near Litchfield. Another woman was killed Tuesday when she was hit by one of the buses in Chicago's West Loop.
