The Illinois Department of Transportation is planning to replace the Interstate 270 bridge, and is hosting a meeting tomorrow in Granite City to talk about it. The bridge is about 50 years old, and while still safe to use, is at its limit as far as the capacity of traffic it can move across the Mississippi River according to an IDOT Engineer.
IDOT Engineer Kirk Brown says a new bridge is not something that is coming in the near future, but they are preparing for that day with the help of your suggestions. He tells the Big Z they are also looking for people to form a community advisory group.

Tomorrow's open-house meeting will be held at the Southwestern Illinois College - Granite City Campus from 4-7pm. Exhibits will be on display and IDOT staff will be on hand to discuss the project and answer questions.
