Two long-time members of the Madison County Sheriff's Department are taking on new duties. Captain Brad Wells has been promoted to the rank of Major and will be named Chief Deputy for the Sheriff's Office, while his right-hand man, Lieutenant Mike Dixon will take over Wells' role as Chief of Detectives, beginning tomorrow.
Sherrif Bob Hertz says putting Wells in the spot that opened up when former Major John Laking moved on to become Police Chief of Glen Carbon made a lot of sense.
Likewise, Hertz says Dixon was a natural to fill the job opened by Wells' promotion.
Both men are graduates of the FBI National Academy. Wells began his career with the Sheriffs Department in 1992 after two years with the Wood River Police Department. Dixon started his career with the office in 1995 after serving five years with the Bethalto Police Department.
