Prom season starts this weekend at Civic Memorial High School in Bethalto, and the law enforcement community wants to make sure it's a safe one. Police agencies have been known to step up their presence on area roads to make sure unsafe driving practices are stopped or deterred.
Madison County Sheriff Bob Hertz says while some teens may be tempted to consume alcohol on prom night, he advises against it.

He says most schools are offering after-prom events where the kids are locked in, and have plenty of activities to stay busy without being on the roads or around alcohol.
