The closure of a portion of Broadway between Market and Piasa Streets in Alton will likely continue into next week.  A water main break that happened in mid-April that apparently washed out much of the ground underneath the pavement is being repaired.  City workers have been busy fixing the broken sewer main tiles.

Alton Public Works Director Bob Barnhart tells The Big Z his crew has dug out about 30 feet of the estimated 100 feet of the road and base.

After that part of the project is done, he says similar work will be done from Market Street to Alby.
