A local Christian organization is launching a new effort aimed at helping kids in tough situations.  The Refuge is an offshoot of Riverbend Family Ministries, and according to its website, “exists to address and prevent childhood abuse and violence exposure on every level”

Tenley McHarg is the Program Director and tells The Big Z they are concentrating on kids up to 11 years old.

She says they will assist kids who have been exposed to many different types of trauma, and will attempt to give them a sense of safety.  That can be done through non-traditional means like art and play therapy, according to McHarg.
