The social impact of Facebook continues to draw the attention of researchers, and one study is out from Western Illinois University. Communication professor Christopher Carpenter’s study is called Narcissism on Facebook: Self-Promotional and Anti-Social Behavior. He says the definition of “friend” must be considered, especially when one reaches the 1,000 threshold.

“That does seem like a lot, doesn’t it? It suggests though that kind of person either just happens to have an incredibly active social life and wide-reaching social network, which is sure a possibility, or they’re the kind of person who’s actively seeking to up their friend count, actively seeking to get as large an audience as possible for their display of their self,” he said.
