A former Medicaid recipient and his assistant have both been sentenced to four years of Felony Probation and ordered to pay back more than $13,000 following their guilty pleas to Vendor Fraud. 41-year-old Misty Atwood and 65-year-old Alfred Holder, both of Roodhouse, were sentenced this week. This comes as the state ramps up efforts against healthcare-based fraud.
In April, Governor Rauner signed an executive order creating the Health Care Fraud Elimination Task Force. The goal is to root out fraud, waste, and abuse. A joint investigation determined Atwood and Holder conspired to falsify the documents provided to the Illinois Department of Human Services for payment which they shared.
