A Catholic priest of the Springfield Diocese, who once served in Batchtown and Collinsville, has been named the new Bishop of Wichita, Kansas. 53 year old Monsignor Carl Kemme was chosen by Pope Francis to become the 11th bishop of the diocese on Thursday.
Bishop-elect Kemme currently holds the role of the vicar general and moderator of the curia for the Springfield Diocese and has been a priest since 1986. He has also served in Springfield, Sherman, Decatur and Petersburg. No date has been set for his installation in Wichita.
Serving the areas of Alton, Godfrey, East Alton, Wood River, Roxana, Edwardsville, Jerseyville, Brighton, Bethalto, Grafton, Granite City, Hartford, Highland, Troy, Fairview Heights, Belleville and the surrounding cities.
