Law enforcement and community organizations are participating in the National Drug Take Back Day tomorrow. The program encourages anyone with old or unused prescription medications to turn them in at a designated site. More than 1,400 pounds of prescription medications were collected during the April collection. The Drug Enforcement Administration estimates more than 7-million Americans abuse prescription drugs.
DEA Investigator Scott Collier says there will be several locations around the region and around the nation participating.
The Alton drop-off box has collected more than 6,500 pounds of prescription drugs since it was first placed in the lobby of the poilce station. You can participate in the National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day by taking your used or old medications to the Alton police station or the parking lot behind the Madison County Administration Building in Edwardsville from 10am-2pm.
