The Riverbend has already had a taste of winter weather, but with December coming next week the coldest temperatures of the year are most likely still to come.  The Illinois Emergency Management Agency is reminding you to make sure you car and your home are ready for the ice, snow and cold temperatures this winter.

I-EMA spokesperson Patti Thompson says you should have a winter prep kit at home so you can stay safe and warm if there's a bad storm.  Twenty-eight people in Illinois died from cold weather exposure last year.  For tips on what should be included in your winter prep kits, go to
