You’ve got a car, and the deer are running around on the road. That’s going to be a problem. “In Illinois, November, October and June are the highest collision months that we see,” says Missy Dundov, a spokeswoman for Bloomington-based State Farm Insurance. “December also plays up there. We’re coming into some months (in which) it is going to be a little bit more dangerous on the roadways when it comes to deer, and it’s important to be alert.”

State Farm claims information projects a slight increase in car-deer crashes this fall than a year ago. Illinois is only 31st in the nation in car-deer collisions, but they can occur in any of the state's 102 counties. The average claim, Dundov says, is for almost $4,000.
