The Santa Train is coming back to Godfrey. Two years ago, the Holiday Express, as it is officially known, was rerouted to include more stops in Texas and Louisiana, but local organizers credit a large public outcry among the reasons the Kansas City Southern Railroad has reinstated several stops in Illinois, including the one in Godfrey at the Pearl Street crossing.
Local organizer Keith Sherman says aside from the smiles and good cheer the train brings to the community, there is also a charitable aspect.
The Holiday Express train includes a smiling tank car named "Rudy," a flatcar that carries Santa’s sleigh, reindeer and a miniature village, a ginger bread boxcar, a newly remodeled elves’ workshop, the reindeer stable, and a little red caboose. Parking will be off-site at Lewis & Clark Community College, with busses used to get patrons from point A to point B. The train will make its stop in Godfrey on December 13 at 4pm.
