After months of so-called “political attacks” from fellow legislators, Madison County Treasurer Kurt Prenzler is sounding off on a new plan to set up a committee to oversee future investments made by the county. The Finance Committee approved a plan introduced by County Board Chairman Alan Dunstan earlier this week to bring in an outside firm to work with Prenzler, a move the treasurer calls “unusual”.
He says his strategy to focus on short-term investments has helped increase the county’s portfolio since he took office.

Prenzler says his job is to do what is in the best interests of the taxpayers, not to build up a “war chest”. He also says that he remains open-minded but has not seen any official proposal from Dunstan or the committee.
