A series of possible attempted child abductions in the Riverbend have many parents on edge.  In one case, a boy was approached by a stranger in a car as the child was walking home from Lewis and Clark Junior High School in Wood River.  Another one at a nearby trailer park was reported on social media.  These incidents can happen anywhere, and law enforcement is advising parents to teach their kids about "stranger danger."

Major Brad Wells with the Madison County Sheriff's Department says teaching your child to scream if they feel threatened may not be enough.

Wells comments

He says spreading the word through Facebook, Twitter and other forms of social media is helpful due to the immediacy of the format, where in years past it may take hours or even days to spread the word through the community if a danger such as this arose.
