There is now a closing date in place for the Wood River Dynegy Energy coal-fired power plant, according to a union official.  The plant will shut down June 1, according to information shared with IBEW Local 51 Business Manager Matt Moore.

The date was shared with the union by the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (mEYE-SO), according to Moore.  He says this is going to mean a big hit to the local economy.

Moore believes deregulation of the industry twenty years ago is responsible for the closing now, saying the MISO playing field is not level for plants in Southern Illinois.
