Ameren Illinois reported more than 4,800 customers were without power this morning.  The outage began about 7:45am and impacts residents in the Bethalto, Moro and Rosewood Heights area.  After switching a number of customers to another substation, about 3,200 were brought back online by 9am.  Company officials expect complete restoration by 10:00.

Ameren Illinois Spokesman Brian Bretsch says once crews arrived on the scene, they discovered the cause of the outage.

Bethalto Mayor Alan Winslow says when the power started coming back on, several calls to the fire department followed.

He says while he believes the worst is over, but crews from neighboring fire departments are standing by, just in case.
