The power is back on for about 3,400 Ameren customers in Jersey and Greene Counties. A line of storms moved through the area Tuesday morning and may have contributed to the loss of power, mostly centered in and around Jerseyville. An Ameren spokesman says the outages affected customers in Carrollton, Kane and Jersey County.
Brian Bretsch says crews were dispatched to a substation in Jerseyville shortly after the outage was reported around 3am Tuesday. By 7am, a number of customers were restored through switching, and the rest were back on about an hour later.

He says the arrestor serves to take lightning strikes and send the power into the ground, but as with any piece of equipment, can only take so much. Bretsch says crews will install a new lightning arrestor, as it is a vital piece of equipment.
