Power was knocked out for about 5,500 customers of Ameren Illinois in Godfrey Thursday evening due to a device failure at an Ameren substation on Tolle Lane.
Witnesses reported seeing bright light, perhaps fire at one point, before emergency crews arrived on the scene. The outage began around 7:30pm.
Ameren spokeswoman Victoria Busch tells Z-1570 News the failure impacted several other substations in the area which lead to the larger power outage. Busch said it took about two hours for all power to be restored. There's no word as to the extent of damage to the Tolle Lane property and no reports of injuries. All power was restored by 10pm.
