Local police will be on the lookout for dangerous driving this weekend, especially from younger drivers.   Alton Police and the Madison County Sheriff’s Department are teaming with the Drug Free Alton Coalition on special patrols and roadside safety checks.  The coalition is also sponsoring an after-game party at a local church for high school students.

Police will not only be looking out for teen drivers, but also adults who are displaying poor driving decisions like drinking and driving, or driving while texting or talking on a cell phone.   Drug Free Alton Coalition Project Coordinator Melanie Nagel says Calvary Baptist Church is sponsoring a free party after tonight’s Alton High football game from 9:30-11:30pm:

The event called the 5th Quarter features food and drink, inflatables and other games in the church gym, and a safe atmosphere.  A similar event is planned for December following a home basketball game.  For more information, go to www.drugfreealton.com
