Checking local police reports provided this morning to Z-1570, Alton Police were investigating the report of an armed robbery at The Milk Store on Milton Road Sunday evening. The owner of the store says two men wearing bandanas over their faces entered the store at closing and demanded money. One was armed with a handgun and the men escaped on foot but not before the owner fought back.

Police report after one of the robbers grabbed money from the cash register, the owner struck one of the men with a baseball bat before they were able to make their getaway. The owner was not injured, and it is unknown how much money the men escaped with. Authorities are looking at video footage in an attempt to identify the suspects who were reported to be two black males, wearing dark clothing and the bandanas over their faces. The hold up occurred between 9:15 and 9:30pm Sunday.

Wood River Police were holding one person this morning, 61 year old Charles Briggeman of the 200 block of 12th in Wood River on two outstanding warrants.

There was no one being held in the East Alton Jail early this morning.
