Alton Police are investigating a reported robbery in downtown Alton from early Wednesday.  A woman who was cleaning outside a local bar was apparently approached by two men who demanded her purse.  The incident happened in the 200 block of West Third Street outside Catdaddy's around 5:30am yesterday.  The woman told police she was picking up trash outside the business when one of the men reached into his jacket as if he had a gun, so she handed over her purse and the men fled on foot along State Street.  A police officer responding to the 9-1-1 call quickly found two men near State and Dry Streets and took one man into custody while the other fled.  Police found evidence at the scene they say connects the man to the crime and he is awaiting formal charges.

Earlier this morning, police in Wood River were holding 32 year old Heather Pierce of Wood River for retail theft.

There was no one being held this morning in the East Alton jail.
