Checking local police reports provided this morning to Z-1570, Wood River Police were called to investigate a mysterious object found near the post office Tuesday afternoon. The long, hard plastic tube was found leaning against the side of the building around 3pm, and unsure of what it was, police evacuated the building and turned away customers. The Illinois Secretary of State bomb squad was called, but that call was cancelled once police found out it was a piece of covering for phone lines. An employee of AT&T who was working in the area returned to retrieve the piece and told police what it was, and the mystery was solved.
And, if you are driving at night next month, be aware of extra Illinois State Police patrols. The ISP office in Collinsville has announced plans for Nighttime Enforcement Patrols during February targeting unsafe drivers, especially those driving under the influence. Drivers are also reminded to buckle up and make sure all passengers of all ages are also wearing their seat belts which is now law in Illinois.
