In local police reports provided to The Big Z, the Madison County Sheriff’s Department responded to an accident in the 4300 block of Briarcliff in the Rockgate Subdivision on Wednesday morning.  An 82-year-old man apparently suffered a heart attack causing him to lose control of his car and strike a parked car in a driveway that was then partially pushed into a garage.  The driver later died at a local hospital.  His name has not yet been released, but no one else was injured.

On Tuesday, Madison County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 25 year old Steve Ferron of the 800 block of Hale Avenue in Edwardsville for unlawful possession of a controlled substance, heroin.

Police in Alton arrested four women for theft at the Alton Lowe’s store and believe they may be part of a theft ring.  The women allegedly stole items from the Alton store on November 5, and police discovered they were also suspected in a theft from a Lowe’s in Fairview Heights the same day.  Alton Police were notified the same group returned and allegedly stole items from the Fairview Heights and Granite City stores yesterday, so officers joined store security to wait in case they returned to Alton.  The foursome was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon attempting to leave the store without paying for a number of items.  Formal charges are expected today in Madison County, but the women, who are all from St. Louis, may also be implicated in similar crimes at Lowe’s stores in Missouri.

Alton Police also arrested 19 year old Phillip McCardy of the 4400 block of Delta Queen in Alton for forgery.
