An East Alton man is facing felony charges following a parole compliance check at his home on Tuesday. The Madison County Sheriff’s Office reports that 30-year old Jerry D. Roof (pictured) of the 240 block of Maywood Drive has been charged with unlawful possession of controlled substance (cocaine) and unlawful possession of weapons by a felon. According to information released by the sheriff’s office, an Illinois Department of Corrections Parole Agent discovered a loaded firearm during a compliance check Tuesday and requested additional assistance from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office. An expanded search of the residence resulted in the recovery and seizure of seven grams of cocaine. Roof was taken into custody and is being held at the Madison County Jail on a $75,000 bond.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Office also reports that felony charges have been filed against a Moro woman following a traffic stop on Tuesday. 35-year old Cathy A. Sewell has been charged with two felony counts of possession of a controlled substance (heroin and clonazepam) and misdemeanor charges of illegal possession of a syringe and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. The sheriff’s office reports that Sewell was stopped for improper lane usage on Illinois Route 140 near South Moreland Road just after noon Tuesday. A search of her vehicle resulted in the discovery of two Klonopin tablets and the safety cap of a hypodermic syringe. Further investigative efforts revealed that Sewell was in possession of three hypodermic syringes and a spoon contaminated with heroin residue. She was transported to the Madison County Jail and is being held on a $30,000 bond.
