Checking local police reports provided this morning to Z-1570, Alton Police were investigating a reported shooting outside CTW's Tavern on Belle Street near downtown Alton early Sunday. The 32 year old male victim was initially treated at St. Anthony's Health Center and later transported to a hospital in St. Louis with non-life threatening injuries. Police will continue the investigation today, but have not yet indicated if any potential witnesses are cooperating. An officer was in the vicinity of the tavern near the time of the shooting, but police were not called until the injured man was taken to the hospital.
The Madison County Sheriff's Department says a man had been drinking when he drove his car onto train tracks in Edwardsville. Twenty-four-year-old Philip Jostes of St. Louis is charged with DUI and trespassing. Police say he apparently tried to drive across the tracks Saturday night in the 5200 block of Smith Street when his car got stuck. When he was unable to move it, deputies say he and his passengers simply walked away, and the car was later hit by a train.
Police were called shortly after the train hit the car, and they were able to find Jostes a short distance away and place him into custody. Authorities say the suspect and his friends attempted to move the vehicle, but never tried to contact police to report what had happened.
