The Missouri Highway Patrol responded to an accident involving an overturned vehicle on Highway 67 in West Alton overnight.  The driver has been identified as 41-year-old Wayman Steward of Alton, who was airlifted to Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis with serious injuries.  Police say he was driving north on Highway 67 when he crossed the median and his car overturned.  The accident took place around 12:20 this morning.

Alton Police are investigating an apparent hit and run accident from Thursday in Upper Alton.  Authorities believe a truck hit a car around 10:45am, forcing it into the side of the former Alton Sew-Vac at College and Washington, then fled the scene.  Police say a license plate was left behind at the scene of the crash, believed to belong to the suspect vehicle.  The driver of the car was taken to a local hospital for observation but was not seriously injured.
