A man was arrested in Godfrey early Wednesday morning for allegedly stealing lawn mowing equipment.  30 year old Joseph S. Burkhart of Rockbridge is charged with felony theft over $500.  Alton Police reported receiving a call from a witness who saw a suspicious truck pulling lawn mowing equipment at 2am on Belle Street turning onto Prairie Street.  The witness described the truck to police and continued following the vehicle eventually making contact with the driver near Prairie and Mound Streets where the suspect unhooked the trailer and drove away.  The witness continued to follow the truck to a home in the 2700 of Walter Street in Godfrey. 

Madison County Sheriff's Deputies arrived at the address and contacted Burkhart who was questioned, taken into custody, then charged on Thursday.  Two women at the home at the time of the arrest 26 year old Ciara Kibbons of the 1000 block of North Liberty Street in Jerseyville and 23 year old Elizabeth Cowan of the 4300 block of Briarcliff in Godfrey were also charged with resisting/obstructing a peace officer.   Alton Police contacted the owner of the lawn mowing equipment who retrieved the trailers and the mowers.
