Drivers in the Alton area can expect to see an increase in police presence over the upcoming Labor Day holiday as Alton Police have announced plans for more patrols as part of the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over/Click It or Ticket" crackdown. Alton Police Captain Scott Waldrup says his officers will be performing many different types of checks.

The Illinois Department of Transportation is funding the increased patrols, in an effort to decrease fatal accidents. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that the majority of those accidents happen between midnight and 3 a.m. Alton Police recommend designating a sober driver before going out and that you never let friends or family members drive while impaired.
